Russia launches more than 450 drones in overnight attacks on Ukraine

A 26-year-old woman died in Izyum after an explosive device detonated, Syniehub said. Izyum has repeatedly been affected by fighting and attacks because of its location in the Kharkiv region.
Volyn in western Ukraine endured a large-scale attack lasting more than four hours on Saturday. Regional Governor Roman Romaniuk said that more than 10 drones entered the region’s airspace, leaving at least five people injured.
In Lutsk, drone debris hit an evacuated train and caused a fire. No injuries were reported in that incident, but the damage illustrated the continuing risk to transport infrastructure even when incoming drones are intercepted.

The exchange reflects the wider battle over energy infrastructure. Russian attacks have largely focused on Ukraine’s electricity and broader energy system, while Ukrainian operations have targeted Russian oil and gas infrastructure, including refineries and storage facilities.
Diplomatic positions remain divided
The military escalation unfolded amid renewed discussion of a possible meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Zelenskyy said he was prepared to attend the G20 summit in Miami and meet Putin on its margins.

Zelenskyy said practical results mattered more than public statements. The Kremlin rejected Miami as a possible venue, with spokesperson Dmitry Peskov saying Putin would meet Zelenskyy only in Moscow.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Moscow would not halt what it calls its “special military operations” during possible peace negotiations. The opposing positions underline the substantial gap that remains between the two sides.
