Two Killed and Several Injured in House Fire on Mallorca
Incident in Popular Tourist Area Sparks Investigation
Poinews.com – A house fire erupted in the early hours of Thursday in a residential building on Mallorca’s Magaluf beachfront, resulting in two fatalities and multiple injuries, local officials reported. The blaze began at approximately 5 a.m., igniting the third floor of the structure, as confirmed by the Civil Guard, a Spanish law enforcement body. The fire’s origin is still being examined by investigators.
Residents made attempts to suppress the flames but were unable to contain the spread. The fire quickly engulfed the building, escalating toward the upper floors before emergency crews arrived. It took about two hours to fully extinguish the flames. At least four individuals are currently receiving medical treatment, according to authorities’ statements on their official website.
Local authorities noted that around 20 residents were impacted by the fire. Nearby hotels have pledged to offer temporary shelter to those displaced by the incident.
Among the victims was a 58-year-old Argentine national, while the other deceased remains unidentified. The two were located in separate units within the building. The third floor, along with adjacent levels, has been cordoned off for further assessment.
Magaluf, a well-known destination for young British and German tourists, lies along the coast of Calvià. It is situated approximately 22 kilometers west of Palma de Mallorca, the island’s capital. In response to the tragedy, local officials have announced a two-day period of mourning.
