Rock in Rio 2026: Live Music Still Attracts Mass Audiences

Poinews.com – Rock in Rio has made its comeback in Lisbon for the 11th edition, drawing over 200,000 attendees during its first weekend. Despite the rise of digital streaming, which allows people to access music anytime, the event continues to thrive as a central hub for live performances. Attendees emphasize that the physical presence at concerts offers an unmatched experience.

Festivalgoers’ Perspectives on Live Experience

At the Parque Papa Francisco venue, festivalgoer Pedro Paiva shared his thoughts with Euronews, highlighting the unique atmosphere of live music. “Watching a concert surrounded by thousands of people is a completely different experience,” he said. “Being at the event lets me dance and connect with others, which I can’t replicate at home watching it on TV. Social media also makes me feel FOMO, wanting to be part of the action without a ticket.”

“Streaming and social media don’t replace the live experience. They actually enhance the desire to attend festivals or concerts,” added Inês Pestana, another visitor.

Event Beyond Music: Social and Cultural Hub

Rock in Rio is more than just a music festival—it’s a space for intergenerational interaction and shared experiences. Activities such as zip lines, Ferris wheels, and brand activations, alongside a variety of food stalls, create a dynamic environment. While some come for their favorite artists, others seek the collective energy of the crowd.

“It’s so cool, it feels like we’re all here for the same thing. It’s like everyone is on my Spotify playlist. It’s so funny,” laughed Inês Vieira.

Positive Feedback and Future Lineup

A survey by Marktest revealed that visitors gave the festival an average score of 8 out of 10 for overall satisfaction. Roberta Medina, the executive vice-president of Rock in Rio, praised the event’s growth. “This edition solidifies Parque Tejo/Papa Francisco as the new home for Rock in Rio Lisboa, with a stronger musical lineup, enhanced entertainment, and improved facilities. We’re pleased to see the public’s recognition of our efforts and look forward to another exciting weekend.”

Music Lineup and Festival Dates

The first weekend featured pop music, with acts like Calema, Pedro Sampaio, Charlie Puth, and Katy Perry headlining the main stage. The second day shifted focus to rock, drawing large crowds with performances from Linkin Park, Cypress Hill, The Pretty Reckless, and Grandson. The festival will return next weekend, with Saturday hosting Rod Stewart, Cyndi Lauper, Shaggy, and 4 Non Blondes, while Sunday will close with 21 Savage, Central Cee, Rema, and Matuê.
