According to NBC News, the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) has classified Israel as a “critical” counterintelligence risk. The agency’s designation reportedly stems from worries that Israel may be attempting to extract information from senior U.S. officials to better understand the Trump administration’s strategies for Middle East conflicts.
Israeli Officials Dispute Allegations
An Israeli Embassy representative in Washington, as cited by NBC News, called the claims “completely false.” The spokesperson asserted that Israeli intelligence efforts are directed at adversaries, not allies, and denied any attempts to monitor U.S. government officials.
“Reports that Israel spies on the United States are entirely untrue,” the spokesperson stated.
White House and Pentagon Remain Noncommittal
Neither the Pentagon nor a White House official has publicly addressed the allegations. The latter described the reports as inaccurate, citing sources without direct knowledge of the situation.
Trump Confronts Netanyahu Over Military Actions
During a Wednesday interview with the New York Post, President Donald Trump confirmed he had used strong language when speaking to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. When asked if he had called the leader “f** crazy,” Trump replied: “I did.” The exchange occurred as Israel continued its strikes in southern Lebanon, disregarding a U.S.-brokered ceasefire.
“I was ‘a little bit perturbed’ by Israel’s continued military actions in Lebanon,” Trump said.
Recent Strikes in Lebanon
Lebanese authorities reported that at least five people were killed and 22 injured in two separate Israeli attacks on Saturday. These incidents underscore the persistent conflict in the region, even as diplomatic efforts seek to de-escalate tensions.
Despite the reported disagreement, Trump emphasized that both leaders are navigating wartime challenges and maintained that U.S.-Israel collaboration remains robust.
