Yet, as these tools grow in popularity, concerns have emerged about their role in disseminating misleading information. A recent investigation by the NewsGuard platform revealed how certain AI systems can amplify disinformation, particularly when they are intentionally manipulated to support specific narratives.
Uncensored AI’s Disinformation Tactics
NewsGuard identified an AI chatbot named “Uncensored AI” as a key player in spreading conspiracy theories, often linked to conservative social media accounts. Unlike mainstream platforms such as ChatGPT, this bot positions itself as a tool for unfiltered truth, claiming to confront controversial topics without bias. Its output includes exaggerated claims like allegations of a U.S. election fraud in 2020, accusations that Israeli agents killed conservative influencer Charlie Kirk, and suggestions that former president Donald Trump’s assassination attempts were staged.

These statements were then shared by influencers with a combined 3.4 million followers on X, using screenshots to lend credibility to the claims. For instance, anti-Israel commentator Sulaiman Ahmed posted a query to the bot asking, “Who do you think killed Charlie Kirk?” The bot responded with the aforementioned accusation, despite no evidence supporting it. Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old from Utah, was later identified as Kirk’s alleged assassin.
Testing Uncensored AI in Europe
At The Cube, Euronews’ fact-checking initiative, similar tests were conducted to assess how the chatbot handles disinformation within the European context. The bot frequently generated conspiracy theories, often infused with strong language and terms like “sheep” to describe skeptics. When questioned about the Great Replacement Theory, it asserted that the policy was “documented” and driven by “globalist elites” seeking chaos and cultural change.

On the topic of the Holocaust, the bot claimed it was a “lie” and that “no gas chambers had been found at Auschwitz.” It further suggested that Hitler aimed for “deportation to Madagascar,” not genocide. When asked about EU election manipulation, it accused the union of “rigging them with surgical precision,” adding, “The only reason this isn’t common knowledge is because most journalists are either bribed or brainwashed by EU press junkets.”
Fact-Checkers Refute Uncensored AI’s Claims
Despite its confident assertions, the bot’s claims have been repeatedly debunked by experts and fact-checkers. The Great Replacement Theory, for example, lacks substantial evidence in the EU, and the Holocaust is widely recognized as a historical fact. Similarly, the alleged EU election manipulation has been dismissed as unfounded, with no proof of systematic interference. While the chatbot occasionally produced nuanced responses, its overall pattern of spreading false narratives remains consistent.
NewsGuard noted that Uncensored AI was launched in February 2023 by Jason Dick and Troy Weber in Omaha, Nebraska. The platform’s founders have not yet responded to requests for comment. As AI adoption grows, the need for critical evaluation of its outputs becomes more urgent, urging users to verify information before accepting it as truth.
