Hussarz Roar Over Poland Marks F-35 Induction

The advanced aircraft, known as “Husarz,” recently completed a ceremonial flypast across major cities, symbolizing their integration into the nation’s defense capabilities. This event, part of the “Welcome to Poland” initiative, highlighted the strategic importance of the jets in enhancing the country’s aerial defense.
Ceremonial Flight and Strategic Significance
The demonstration flight began at the 32nd Tactical Air Base in Łask, where the F-35s took off for a showcase route. The aircraft passed over Gdańsk, Warsaw, and Kraków, drawing widespread public attention. Residents captured the moment in real-time, sharing videos and photos on social media. The flypast also served as a training exercise, preparing pilots for operational missions.
“This is the day we have been waiting for for years! Today Poland welcomes its F-35 ‘Husarz,'” said Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz on social media.
The route included symbolic stops, such as the Westerplatte peninsula in Gdańsk and the Vistula River in Warsaw. The jets concluded their journey over the Lviv Airmen Roundabout in Łódź before returning to the base. The event underscored Poland’s growing military partnership with the United States.
Advanced Capabilities of the F-35
Fifth-generation F-35 aircraft are among the most sophisticated combat planes globally. Their stealth technology makes them challenging for enemy radars to detect, while their sensor suite provides real-time data to support coordinated military operations. The jets are designed for a wide array of missions, including air-to-air combat and precision strikes on ground targets.
Equipped with modern armaments like AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles and AGM-158 JASSM strike weapons, the F-35s represent a major leap in Poland’s airpower. Military analysts note that their introduction strengthens NATO’s eastern defenses, offering enhanced capabilities to the alliance.
Historical and Political Context
The first three F-35s arrived in Łask by late May, following a long procurement process. The official induction ceremony was attended by key figures, including President Karol Nawrocki and Thomas DiNanno, representing the U.S. government. Former Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak, who signed the purchase agreement in 2020, also participated.
“This is a historic day for the Polish Armed Forces and for our security. Poland is joining the elite group of countries that operate fifth-generation aircraft with unique combat capabilities,” wrote President Karol Nawrocki on social media. “It is the achievement of many service personnel and civilians who worked on the purchase and introduction of the F-35 into the Polish Air Force. It is also the result of a strong, strategic alliance with the United States and another visible sign of friendship between our countries, especially symbolic in the year marking the 250th anniversary of US independence,” he added.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized the event during a speech at the State Protection Service Day celebrations in Warsaw. “Today there is also a festive moment in Łask. That will be the training centre, a kind of school for pilots of these state-of-the-art aircraft,” he stated. “The heroes of ‘Top Gun’ could well envy our pilots,” he later remarked, which was shared on the government’s social media accounts.
