Ukraine Launches Attacks on Russian Oil Sites Near Saint Petersburg
Poinews.com – On Friday evening, Ukrainian forces targeted oil infrastructure near Saint Petersburg, a move announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy through a post on X. The strikes, he explained, focused on “port oil infrastructure that generates revenue for Russia’s war.” Additionally, Zelenskyy highlighted successful hits on Kronstadt, a significant military site, noting that the location is over 850 kilometers from Ukraine’s state border.
“There were also successful strikes on Kronstadt – an important military target. The distance from Ukraine’s state border is more than 850 kilometers,” he added.
Earlier in the day, Alexander Drozdenko, governor of Russia’s Leningrad Oblast, reported that “several dozen” Ukrainian drones had been intercepted in the region, with debris landing in the port of Vysotsk. Meanwhile, Russian forces retaliated by attacking Ukraine’s Poltava region on Saturday morning, hitting Naftogaz Group gas production facilities, according to Sergii Koretskyi, the company’s CEO.
“A fire broke out at the site and operations at the facility have been suspended,” Koretskyi wrote on Facebook. “It is not yet possible to assess the extent of the damage.”
In the Sumy region, Russian strikes resulted in three fatalities, including a child, as per Ukraine’s Emergency Service. Authorities stated 27 individuals were injured, among them seven children, with emergency crews rescuing five from damaged structures. Separate attacks in the Odesa and Kherson regions caused injuries and fires, with the latter damaging a poultry farm’s production building.
Russian Strikes and Disinformation Claims
The attacks in Kyiv followed a massive drone and missile barrage launched by Moscow earlier this week. At least 30 people were killed, and over 20 sites were hit in the capital, as noted by Kyiv’s mayor, who labeled the assault as the “most massive attack” on the city. Ukraine’s air force confirmed the use of 570 air attack assets, including four Zircon missiles, 24 Iskander ballistic missiles, and 496 Shahed-type drones.
On Saturday, Kyiv’s army spokesman, Andriy Kovalyov, refuted Russian claims that the eastern town of Kostyantynivka had been captured. He stated the situation was “difficult” but emphasized that Ukrainian troops were still defending the area. “The enemy has resorted to the dissemination of blatant disinformation and fake claims by its highest-ranking officials,” Kovalyov remarked.
“Ukrainian defenders continue to hold their positions along the designated defensive lines. The situation remains difficult but is under the control of the Ukrainian Defense Forces,” Kovalyov said. “There have been instances of small infantry groups (1–3 personnel) infiltrating deep into the battle formations of Ukrainian forces. Counter-sabotage operations by the Defense Forces are ongoing in the town. Occupying forces are being detected and eliminated,” he added.
